Origami Boats

On a summer day that is too hot for outside play, fold some paper boats and watch them float.  Which designs work best? This sizzling day is waiting for you to find out.

How many petals are on a rose?

How Many Petals Are on a Rose?

In Benny's Pennies, a little boy buys gifts for his mother, his brother, his sister, his dog, and his cat with five pennies. Kindergartners learn about the soft smelling rose by counting the petals. Do all roses have the same number of petals? How many petals are on a petunia?
Legumes add atmospheric nitrogen to the soil. They're good for people to eat, too.

How Many Seeds Are in a Pod?

Third graders studied legumes after reading A Bad Case of Stripes about Camilla Cream, who liked lima beans.  They collected data to learn how many people liked and did not like lima beans, lentils, and garbanzos (chick peas).  They dissected the pods of green beans and sugar snap peas to see how many seeds were inside.
