Our Book Reviews

SMART Libros Favoritos

SMART Libros Favoritos is our list of favorite books for reading to young children and families in both English and Spanish.  Generally, we prefer books with English and Spanish on the same page rather than books that are translated, requiring two separate books for two languages.  Occasionally, we enjoy a third type of book written in Spanglish for people who live in a mixed language culture.

SMART Globe is a new book review feature emphasizing the importance of children's literature from around the world.   SMART Globe will launch on International Literacy Day, which is September 8, 2014.

Breadcrumbs is a book review series created by Claudia Heymach and written by Claudia and the members of the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) Literacy Club.  The Breadcrumbs feature reviews books for readers who are ages 9 to 18, and provides the high school student perspective.

SMART Pics is our book review series highlighting our favorite picture books. Books are chosen based upon

  • reactions and opinions of our audiences

  • suitability for reading aloud with a group

  • opportunities in a story to integrate learning about science, math, art, or technology.
