About Favorite Pics
"Favorite Pics" are picture books that are picked based upon reactions from our SMART audiences to children's picture books. We purchase thousands of children's books and read aloud to many young children and families, usually in groups of 20 to 30 people at a time. Every person holds a copy of the book during the reading, so they get a close look. The children are given the opportunity to choose free books following the reading. Our "Favorite Pics" help us find joy in language, art, and each other. We love books that use a big word or two, even though they are written for children. We look for books that are entertaining, clever, and beautiful. The best books make us laugh or cry and encourage us to share our own stories. Shop for "Favorite Pics" at Amazon.com. Click here.

Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh
Mouse Paint debuted with SMART audiences in January 2013 and became a fast favorite! We have been using multiple copies of the board book version, so that every young child in the program can hold the book and appreciate the details. Children from ages 2 through 5, including some who speak Spanish as their first language, have been amused by the mice who dance in the paint colors and discover the mixed results. This book has appealing text, and the visual story and humor cross language barriers. Art teachers like it too.
